Healing Stones for Long Distance Lovers

Recently I was interviewed by Melissa Chapman for her article in SheKnows titled “How Long Distance Relationships Work” and it got me thinking… what are the healing stones that can assist with the patience, the understanding, maturity and the self-control one needs in this stressful and frustrating circumstance? I’ve been dating Phil for about two years now and we have become best friend. We live 700 miles away and although we communicate constantly we can’t be together, silently, except every few months or so. I answered Melissa’s online query and her questions stimulated and inspired me plus I got to talk about my honey and that always makes my heart beat a bit stronger and faster.
As a jewelry designer who uses cleansed materials, I’m surrounded by healing stones but never thought to find something specific for missing him. After much research I found a few wonderful minerals that can help with quite a few aspects of a loving, long-distance relationship.

  • Dumortierite (Dumorite) is an excellent stone for patience, allowing for the recognition of the potential of anyone you are involved with. Since patience is a cornerstone for a health, long-distance relationship I suggest this stone for anyone who is antsy and wants to rush the relationship.
  • Malachite helps one to accept responsibility for ones actions, circumstances and actuality, bringing understanding and intuitive answers to the forefront prior to response and subsequent action. It also represents fidelity in love and friendship, loyalty in partnerships and practicality and responsibility in business transactions.
  • Garnet has also been known as a “stone of commitment” – to purpose, to others and to oneself. The loving powers of garnet tend to reflect the attributes of devotion bringing the love of others to expressions of warmth and understanding.
  • Kunzite promotes maturity in thought and action, while allowing one to maintain the openness of a child. It assists one in understanding and accepting the type of security which does not infringe on ones state of freedom. Kunzite initiates the internal acknowledgement and external expression of self-love, unconditional love and romantic love. It is an excellent stone for those who are not totally relaxed when expressing the emotions of the heart space. It also stimulates sensitivity and sensuality.
  • Onyx can be used to banish grief, to enhance self-control, to stimulate the power of good decision making and to encourage happiness and good fortune.
  • Hematite facilitates the attainment of peace, self-control and inner happiness. It also is conducive to enabling one to enter into a loving relationship and to attract “kind” love.

All relationships need love, attention and work but a long distance love-affair can be a tougher test of strength and character. Beyond that, the distance allows both people to TRULY become best friends, if they are lucky enough. Philip and I are definitely lucky enough.
